Barstow's Renewable Energy Applications

Barstow receives increase in renewable energy applications
Growing interest in wind and solar energy is giving the public lands
surrounding Barstow the opportunity to become a major player in renewable
energy production for the state of California.
According to the Barstow Dispatch, as of February, applications for wind and
solar projects in the Barstow Field Office area of the Bureau of Land
Management made up about 27 percent of applications pending statewide.
“With virtually unlimited amounts of sun and wind, our area is ground zero
for the renewable energy industries,” states city spokesman John Rader. “We
would be foolish to not take advantage of our natural strengths.”
While the project applications are scattered throughout the region, there
are clusters in the area immediately surrounding Barstow and along
Interstate 40 heading east.
